Caribbean-American Heritage Month Cultural Icon: Adesh Nandlal

SOUTH FLORIDA – Adesh Nandlal is an accomplished singer and music composer. He is proficient in several musical instruments including the tabla, harmonium and the keyboards.  His musical ability is widely recognized and acknowledged throughout North America and the Caribbean.

Adesh Nandlal originally from Chaguanas, Trinidad is the eldest child of his two other siblings, Kavita and Shiva. Adesh was exposed to music at an early age since music was always a part of his family’s life. His parents, Motilal and Radica were very active in the community singing and playing music in the temples, weddings and Indian functions.

At the age of 11, Adesh migrated with his family to Toronto, Canada. In Canada, Adesh’s father Motilal formed the band, ‘Torindies Orchestra’. This is when he made his debut and his musical journey began.   He played keyboards for the band for about five years..

At the age of 17, Adesh migrated with his family to West Palm Beach, Florida and because of his passion for music, he utilized his training and experience and continued to play the keyboards with ‘Stars International’.

Adesh then formed his own band, Tritones International, which existed for a fruitful ten years. During this time Adesh recorded his first solo recording, ‘Enchanting Melodies’, soon after he recorded ‘Dreamers’ with the assistance   of his brother Shiva Nandlal of Exodus Studios. Adesh also recorded two songs on a family recording in Toronto with the assistance of his brother Shiva.

Adesh took a brief break from music where he fulfilled one of his life’s dreams in pursuing a career in law enforcement at the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy in 2006 which he completed successfully.

Two years later Adesh got right back into his passion for music, when he merged with an old friend Rishi Ramnarace, and his band Universal Rhythms. Since then Adesh has recorded many singles songs ranging from Bollywood, soca, religious and chutney hits, both with Universal Rhythms and Exodus Studios.

Adesh is inspired by the famous Kumar Sanu, Kishore Kumar and Sonu Nigam but “my idol is Kishore Kumar” said the humble Adesh .

Recently Adesh formed his new band “Genesis”. The band is based in West Palm Beach Florida and Adesh is accompanied by his older son Brandon, who is a new upcoming chutney soca artist, his youngest son Brian who plays bass guitar and sings as well, Jerome Veerapen, guitarist, Perma Knowles drummer/singer, along with Susan Maharaj, female vocalist.

The vibrant Adesh competed in numerous talent competitions (USA Mastana Bahar) where his talent continued to shine. He continues to serve the community by participating in many fundraising events in the temples and local organizations.

Adesh is happily married to his lovely wife Carol, and has two sons Brandon and with the full support of his wife Carol and his two uprising musical stars Brandon and Brian, Adesh and his band “Genesis” continue to entertain the people of South Florida and his fans all over with his rich mellifluous voice.
