Can’t file on time? Not sure it’s right? Don’t settle for less – H&R Block offers free tax extension filing

MIAMI – More than 10 million taxpayers applied for a tax filing extension last year, avoiding the 5-percent, monthly penalty for failure to file. This year, participating H&R Block offices are offering free tax extension filing now through the April 18 tax filing deadline.

“Rushing can cause last-minute filers to forget necessary paperwork and miss out on claiming key tax credits and deductions that may reduce their tax bill and keep more money in their wallets,” said Enid Echevarria, Miami district manager. “If taxpayers need more time, they can file a free extension with H&R Block to help ensure they file an accurate tax return that claims all the credits and deductions they’re due.”

An extension gives taxpayers an extra six months to file a tax return, making the new filing deadline Oct. 17. H&R Block can help taxpayers understand their payment options if there is a balance due.

The additional three days to file won’t have an effect on some; taxpayers residing outside of the country (including members of the military) routinely receive an additional two months to file their tax returns, making their deadline June 15 this year.
