Broward County Hurricane Hotline Activated

FT. LAUDERDALE – The Broward County Hurricane Hotline was activated at noon today, Sunday, August 17, 2008. Residents can call the hotline for information concerning Tropical Storm Fay at 3-1-1 or 954-831-4000.

Broward County is currently under a Tropical Storm Watch which means that there is a possibility that tropical force winds could impact Broward County within the next 36 hours. The Broward County Emergency Operations Center continues to monitor Tropical Storm Fay and will order protective actions as warranted.

ESF 14 Public Information staff is currently in the Emergency Operations Center to respond to media calls and to assist reporters. Media personnel can call 954-831-3890 to reach a public information specialist. Please do not release this telephone number to the general public.

Information concerning Tropical Storm Fay will be posted to the Broward County web site www.broward.org. The site also contains general preparedness information as well as information to assist vulnerable residents. Residents can still register with the Vulnerable Population Registry at www.broward.org/hurricane or they can call 3-1-1 after noon today.

Residents are encouraged to stay tuned to local media for announcements. Port Everglades and the Greater Fort Lauderdale International Airport continue to operate under normal conditions. Residents are encouraged to call their cruise line or airline to confirm reservations.
