British Airways increases flights to Trinidad for winter season

Port of Spain, Trinidad – British Airways will increase direct flights into Trinidad to five per week for the upcoming winter season, a peak travel time for visitors to the island from the UK.

Currently, British Airways operates a Boeing 777 to Port of Spain three times per week with a passenger capacity of 280 persons. Following negotiations with the Tourism Development Company Ltd (TDC), the airline has added two new flights, which will boost monthly passenger capacity from 3360 persons to 5600 persons, an increase of 67 per cent.

British Airways has already started selling the new service, which will depart from London’s Gatwick Airport.

“Despite the global economic slowdown, this increase of flights into Trinidad by British Airways is evidence of the continued demand for airlift to the island from the UK,” said Nicole du Boulet, TDC’s Public Affairs Manager.

Through UK based representative Nova Alexander, the TDC has worked closely with officials from British Airways over the past months to consider initiatives to address the growing demand for direct flights from the UK to Trinidad.

This increase of direct flights into the island will not only offer better service between Trinidad and the UK, but also enhance the travel experience for all visitors and nationals, while complimenting the available airlift.

It will also support the marketing work the TDC has embarked on the UK and Europe, in collaboration with the Tobago House of Assembly and other stakeholders, to promote Trinidad and Tobago as a prime destination for business and leisure.
