WASHINGTON, DC – On September 27th, BET Networks will air STAND UP, SIGN UP, BE HEARD, a three hour live “telethon” hosted by QUEEN LATIFAH, broadcasting live from our New York studios, and simultaneously from locations in Norfolk, Cleveland, Philadelphia and Detroit.
BET chose these cities because they have the highest percentage of unregistered African Americans.
As part of their strong commitment to increasing voter registration and participation, BET will explain the registration rules and deadlines for each state, speak to members of Congress and other dignitaries, play taped packages from candidates and other politicians on the issues, and much more. They will also instruct people on how to make certain their names are on the registration rolls once they register.
In each city, BET is looking for appearances from a variety of artists, sports personalities, and other celebrities who will appeal to (and draw) an age-diverse crowd. In New York, we’ll also feature performances. BET on-air personalities will conduct interviews with the celebrities who come out. The live broadcast is between 11:00 am – 2:00 pm, and BET will re-air the show at 5:00 pm on the same day.
