Barbadian Hotelier to head Barbados Tourism Authority

BARBADOS – The Government of Barbados has announced a new 18-member Board of Directors to the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA). It is headed by long-standing hotelier Ralph Taylor.

Mr. Taylor is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Almond Resorts Inc. and is also Chairman of the Caribbean Hotel Association Charitable Trust. He is a former Deputy Chairman of the BTA and a former President of the Barbados Hotel Association.

Deputy Chairman is entrepreneur and former banker, Austin Husbands.

The other members of the Board are: Denis Roach, Roseanne Myers, Adrian Loveridge, Dr. Jeannine Comma, Eric Mapp, Shelly Williams, Michael Yearwood, Sunil Chatrani, Alvin Jemmott, David Jean-Marie, Steve Alleyne, Bernard Weatherhead; and a representative of the Barbados Association of Retailers, Vendors and Entrepreneurs (BARVEN), the Barbados Workers Union (BWU), President of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) or his nominee, and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism or his nominee.

The appointments take effect from March 1, 2008.
