Assassin Sit’n’ nice with new album

By: Brittany Somerset

NEW YORK – Dancehall deejay Assassin released his second album Gully Sit’n amid much fanfare last Tuesday at chic Manhattan venue Sway.

Club patrons overflowed into the streets as industry heavyweights and fans alike turned out to join the celebration. Notables like Gravy, deejay of the infamous Rice and Peas party, VP records representatives, Irie Jam employees, and a group of girls decked out like Rambo, with mock bullet chains in honor of Assassin, were all on hand to kick off Assassin’s album release party.

The back room that was reserved for media got a bit unruly as everyone who thought he was someone refused to leave the room amicably, so the press could do their duty and interview him. At one point when K&R Agency representative, Michelle Naraine, got tired of politely asking hangers-on to leave, she began pushing people out of the filled-over-capacity room. Everyone wanted a chance to rub elbows with Assassin.

Known for his unique delivery style of chatting, and unorthodox self-ban on violent and drug-infused lyrics, the emerging star is only just beginning to stake his claim in musical history. Currently, he has two tracks from the new album, “No Boring Gal,” and new entry “Sissy” sit’n on reggae charts around the world.

Assassin raised eyebrows among his peers when he embarked on pursuing his education, simultaneously pursuing a degree in business and a music career.

The Caribbean launch of Gully Sit’n kicks off on Tuesday, September 11th, in Kingston, Jamaica, with a press conference at Terra Nova Hotel, followed by a live performance and artist showcase at Asylum nightclub on Saturday, September 15th.
