Afropolis In Gardens: Art Basel Comes To The City Of Miami Gardens

Art Basel in Miami Gardens AfropolisMIAMI GARDENS – The Art Basel game makes its first foray into the City of Miami Gardens (CMG). CMG will stage a multi-media art event on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at the Betty Ferguson Complex at 1580 NW 199 Street, Miami, FL 33179.

The Art Basel pop up art show, billed as Afropolis in the Gardens will feature three components:

The auditorium will present film screenings from well-known Afro-Cuban filmmaker, Sergio Giral from 1:00pm-7:00pm on December 2, 2015.

The auditorium will also be the venue for CMG’s first art exhibition at the Betty Ferguson Center, and will present the work of Rodrigo Rodriguez, Jackson Shuri, the artist known as MOAL, Corey Evans and Mokhai.

The evening event will move to the outside amphitheatre at 7:00pm and will showcase the art video work of Sheena Rose, Dudley Alexis, Saddi Khali, Everton Wright, Asmar Bailey, Cathleen Dean, Darius Daughtery and Isaac Julien. There will also be a dance presentation by Miami’s resident choreographer, Adrianne Wight from Spiritz Performing Arts Dance Theatre.

The evening will shine with some of the world most sensational Afropolitan music videos.  T Lyfe (South Florida’s leading global Afropolitan  DJ), will spin  music and videos by  Yosssou Ndour,  K’naan,  Kassave, Tracy Chapman, India Arie, Salif Keita, Belo, Magic System, Fela Kuti, Asa, Boukman and Jill Scott.

The evening will unfold as one of Art Basel’s most spirited dance parties.

The City of Miami Gardens in North Dade is undergoing a major cultural renaissance. Jazz in the Gardens has emerged as one of Miami’s signature cultural events, attracting over 70,000 visitors during the spring.

Curator Ludlow Bailey is excited about the enormous opportunity that Afropolis in the Gardens represents for the visual art sector in Miami Dade’s most populous black city.
