Antigua & Barbuda Association of Florida Inc. elects new Executive Board

MIAMA – On Saturday, February 2nd the Antigua & Barbuda Association of Florida Inc. elected their 2008-2009 Executive Board.

The Board consists of:

• Mr. Ken Richards (President)
• Mrs. Jeanette Drew-Woode (Vice President)
• Mr. Peter Adrien (Parliamentarian)
• Mr. Leon Francis (Treasurer)
• Ms. Wendy Caleb (Secretary)
• Ms. Chanika Symister (Public Relations Officer)

The new executive Board is committed to increasing the strength and presence of our Association and the communities we serve. There are plans on the way for what will be a very successful year including several fundraisers leading up to the Banquet.

The first event for the organization is a Fish Fry to be held on Saturday February 23rd at Stanford’s residence, 4443 NW 202 St. in Miami at 6:00 pm.

The ABAF scholarship essay winners will be awarded their certificates and prizes at the event.

The Association was proud to offer three scholarships in the amount of $500 to three very deserving students. The money is to be used to help pay for books and/ or tuition and will be paid directly to the three respective winners.

After a close competition the winners are:

First Place – Chanika Symister
Second Place – Wendy Caleb
Third Place – Turkessa Jacobs

The Board is working on getting their names published in the Daily Observer and Antigua Sun Newspapers.

Work is underway for our Independence Banquet and Awards Gala, planned for October 25th, 2008.
