Haitian Classical Guitarist Amos Coulanges & Songstress Kécita Clénard to perform at Miami Dade College

Black History Month Celebration at Miami Dade College's Wolfson Campus

MIAMI – Experience one the most revered classical guitar musicians of the Haitian culture: Amos Coulanges. Film composer and award-winning maestro Amos Coulanges, along with international songstress Kecita Chenard, will be performing on Thursday, February 23 at 11:00 am at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus in the Idea Center (Building 8 on the 5th floor in Room 8525).

Black History Month Celebration

This performance is part of MDC’s Black History Month event, “Haitian History is Black History: An Overview of Ayiti’s Impact featuring Dr. Guerda Nicolas, Co-founder & President of Ayiti Community Trust.” Join us for an unforgettable interactive and engaging presentation about the history of Haiti (Ayiti) and its impact in the US and around the globe.

Amos Coulanges

Coulanges was born in Haïti (Port Au Prince) in 1954. He was awarded the First Prize in the 7th Carrefour Mondial de la Guitare by Leo Brouwer in Martinique. Coulanges also composes works for guitar and flute, mixed voices choir, and film soundtracks. His music takes inspiration from Haïti and its heritage, as well as various cultural influences. Coulanges has composed film scores for The Middle Passage Composer (2000),  Biguine Composer (2000 and 2004), and The Man on the Shore (1993). The films have been viewed by more than 20 million people.

Kecita Clénard

Kecita Clénard is originally from the city of Aquin (South Haiti). Clernard started several companies in the food sector before branching off to the enchanted world of art, including music, interior design, and fashion. Since 2010, she has performed on small Parisian stages for private parties with her Caribbean Jazz group.
