Ambassador Liliana Ayalde, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs to Open Invest Caribbean 2012

WASHINGTON, DC – The Institute of Caribbean Studies (ICS) is pleased to announce that Ambassador Liliana Ayalde, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs will present Opening Remarks at this year’s Invest Caribbean 2012: Mining the Agribusiness Value Chain Dialogue being held on Friday, November 16, 2012, at the Capitol Hilton Hotel, in Washington, DC from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Ambassador Ayalde joins a number of regional experts and policy leaders for the day of discussions, including David Gomez from the Caribbean Economic Development Agency; Kurt Kisto from the Inter-American Development Bank; Alison Gatchev from Overseas Private Investment Corporation; and John Leonard, from US Customs and Border Proetction.

Ambassador Ayalde’s position serves Cuba, Central America and the Caribbean. Ayalde previously served as Ambassador to Paraguay from 2008 to 2011. Liliana began her Foreign Service career in Bangladesh in 1982, accumulating more than 28-years of experience in diplomacy and development.

The Invest Caribbean business dialogue is an important venue for discussions on furthering US/Caribbean partnerships and increasing trade all along the agribusiness value chain. Speakers will address Business opportunities, access to finance, as well as challenges for importers and exporters.

Immediately following the Conference will be the 19th Annual Caribbean American Heritage Awards Gala which will honor notables, such as Bunny Rugs of Third World Band; Anya Ayoung Chee of Project Runway Fame; and Shaka Hislop, former Soca Warrior and ESPN Soccer Commentator.
