Air Jamaica has new baggage requirements for upcoming holiday season

KINGSTON, Jamaica – With the anticipated increase of checked baggage to the Caribbean over the holiday season, Air Jamaica announces new checked baggage requirements that may affect passengers traveling in November and December 2007.

In general, passengers in economy class may check up to two bags weighing no more than 50 pounds each at no charge.

Effective November 1, the fee on checked bags for economy class passengers weighing over 50 pounds and up to 70 pounds on all routes will be $50USD/$60CAD for each checked bag.

Additionally, for all passengers traveling from December 16 – 26, 2007, Air Jamaica will not be accepting any excess baggage. For the entire month of December, no excess baggage will be accepted on the Toronto to Kingston and JFK to Grenada and Barbados routes.

Air Jamaica recognizes many passengers need to travel with excess baggage during this period and asks consumers to plan ahead with Air Jamaica Cargo. With Air Jamaica’s cargo service, passengers affected by these requirements can send their baggage ahead of time on a cargo freighter via its cargo division.

Travelers can visit the Air Jamaica Cargo website at www.airjamaica.com/cargo for shipping information or call their respective departure city’s Air Jamaica Cargo center in Miami at (305) 526-5985 or Ft. Lauderdale (954) 359-0182.
