AIDA cruises among cruise lines to return to Antigua and Barbuda for 2011/2012 cruise season

LONDON – A delegation from Antigua and Barbuda attended the European cruise industry trade show, in France, from November 30 to December 2.

According to President of the Antigua and Barbuda Cruise Tourism Association, Nathan Dundas, says the event was very successful, since discussions were held with major cruise lines.

The Antigua and Barbuda’s delegation was represented by the President of the Antigua and Barbuda Cruise Tourism Association (ABCTA), Nathan Dundas, General Manager of the Antigua Pier Group, Conrad Pole and Marketing Consultant, Avonelle Pole, who were able to engage in productive meetings with executives from the various European Cruise Lines.


The concept of the Caribbean Village in France proved successful as many attendees to the show complimented the twin island state for its booth design, which made it convenient for cruise executives to meet with members of the delegation in a central location.

Antigua and Barbuda’s delegation was able to meet with executives from Aida Cruises, where it was confirmed that the Cruise Line will be returning to Antigua & Barbuda for next winter season 2011/12.

Discussions were also held with Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, whose representative indicated their commitment to continue making calls to Antigua as one of their premier destination ports.

The Highlight of the trip was a meeting with the new Cruise Line Kristina Cruises out of Finland.

Owner and CEO Captain Mikko Partanen on his initial itinerary only had Antigua for one call. However, after sitting with the team and discussing the benefits of Antigua as a prime destination, he agreed to take another look at Antigua.

Talks were also held with TUI Cruises out of Germany who will be reinstating calls with the Mein Schiff to Antigua for the 2011/12 season, which will be calling weekly after a one year absence.

The executives indicated that they had good passenger satisfaction from Antigua and they are looking forward to returning to our destination.
