Affordable Health Insurance Options For Broward County Residents

Healthcare Marketplace is open for business in Florida to help with affordable health insurance

Fort Lauderdale – Open enrollment to purchase affordable health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace is in full swing here in Broward County.

Enrollment runs through January 31, 2017.

Broward Regional Health Planning Council (BRHPC) and its community partners are working to assist uninsured individuals, families, and those who want to change their insurance plans, and learn about the various 2017 health insurance plans and prices.

Signing up is easy and can be done by logging on to www.healthcare.gov, by phone or by making an appointment for in person assistance.

Residents who enroll by December 15, 2016 may start receiving coverage January 1, 2017 and may qualify for financial assistance. During last year’s open enrollment period, more than 90 percent of Florida residents were eligible to receive financial assistance, essentially lowering the cost of insurance, through a provision of the Affordable Care Act.

Affordable Health Insurance

Timing is critical. If you miss the deadline for open enrollment, you will have to wait until the Marketplace opens again next fall to get covered unless you qualify for special enrollment. You may also owe a fee for each month you go without insurance.

Broward Regional Health Planning Council (BRHPC) is leading the drive to alert Broward County residents that it is important for everyone to sign up by January 31, and that the process is simple.

“South Florida had great results during the last open enrollment in signing up eligible residents,” said Michael DeLucca, President and CEO, BRHPC. “We are trying to reach the thousands of people who still do not have health insurance. We want to show them how easy and affordable it is to get health coverage, and that it is important for everyone to sign up by January 31st.”
