Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County and Miami-Broward One Carnival Host Committee Partner to Present “Carnival on the Plaza”

MIAMI – On Saturday, August 29, 2009, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County in conjunction with the Miami–Broward One Carnival Host Committee will host Carnival on the Plaza, a FREE outdoor Caribbean festival featuring in celebration of the U.S. premiere of the hit reggae musical The Harder They Come at the Adrienne Arsht Center.

The event begins with a press conference at 11 a.m. announcing the much-anticipated schedule for the 25th Anniversary Celebration for Miami Carnival that will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2009 in Bicentennial Park, downtown, Miami.

Taking place on the Adrienne Arsht Center’s Parker and Vann Thomson Plaza, Carnival on the Plaza is a two-hour outdoor festival featuring a full lineup of performances, a junior carnival and Junkanoo parade, kids activities, a Caribbean Village with interactive vendor booths, delicious Caribbean snacks by Barton G. and a special appearance by the cast of The Harder They Come, the musical based on the film that made reggae music and Jimmy Cliff an international sensation.

In addition, from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. only at the Adrienne Arsht Center box office, guests at Carnival on the Plaza will have the exclusive opportunity to buy 2-for-1 tickets for all performances of The Harder They Come.

The Miami-Broward One Carnival host committee is excited to be partnering with the Adrienne Arsht Center to kick-off the 25th Anniversary Celebration of Miami Carnival and also to bring attention to the reggae musical The Harder They Come.
