A Reggae Holiday Story Of Love, Life And Music

MIAMI – Omeriah Malcolm Music Foundation (OMMF) and 99 Jamz invites the community to OMMF’s 1st Annual Charitable Fundraiser – “A STORY OF LOVE, LIFE AND MUSIC” on Friday, December 23rd at the lush Pinecrest Gardens from noon till 10PM.

Come out and enjoy a fun and enlightening day filled with music, art and culture revealing the little known history behind the struggles and triumphs of reggae legend’s musical matriarch, Mother Cedella Marley Booker and her nephew, accomplished pianist and composer, James “Jimmy B” Malcolm.

Jimmy B established OMMF, a non – profit charitable organization, in 2009 to provide music education and equipment for underprivileged children in South Florida, USA; orphans and homeless children in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; and disadvantaged youth in other countries.

Jimmy B, a younger cousin of Bob Marley, was encouraged by the reggae legend to play the piano and to accompany Mother Booker on her musical journey from Delaware days. Jimmy never left his aunt’s side, fulfilling his senior cousin’s command.

This memorable day will be hosted by Pinecrest mayor Cindy Lerner and feature the never before seen Cedella Marley Booker Handmade Doll Collection from 12PM to 5PM in the Hibiscus Room. Also featured there will be the amazing art of emerging Ethiopian fine artist Merid Tafesse, available for sale at the silent auction.

The Colonnade will include an exhibition of the 5 most important places in the life and times of Mother Booker, who passed in April 2008. From Nine Miles to Trenchtown, Delaware to Miami, and connections to Africa – a guided tour of rare photos, ephemera and narrative will recall the musical journey of Jimmy and Bob’s grandfather Omeriah Malcolm providing deeper overstanding of the inspiration behind OMMF.

A private cocktail reception will be held in the Lakeview Terrace from 5 to 6:30 PM for the media, sponsors, artists and other invited guests.

A special Nyabinghi drum performance will provide a spiritual setting, in preparation of the live acoustic concert by Julian Marley and Jimmy B Malcolm from 7PM to 10PM in the Banyan Bowl.

There the audience will experience an eclectic musical passage created by the blending of genres from African to gospel and classical to reggae.

Guests artists scheduled to join Julian and Jimmy include selected members of the University of Miami orchestra, winners of the choir contest and other performers.
