LAUDERHILL – Cricket Council USA condemns the horrific attack on the Sri Lanka cricket team in Lahore. It is a very sad day, when criminals use the beautiful sport of cricket to convey their deadly messages. “Our prayers are with the families of those courageous victims, who died defending not only the innocent players and coaches, but also the virtue of the sport itself” states Cricket Council’s Executives.
With deference to the global grief-stricken cricket community, Cricket Council USA is respectfully moving the dates from First U.S. Cricket Open from April 2009 to November 2009.
The U.S. Cricket Open, like other U.S. Open’s Tournaments, prides itself in its fully “open” format; thereby, providing all teams the opportunity to compete. The recent tragedy at Lahore has created difficulties and roadblocks for many of the registered international teams. Many teams are now experiencing delayed visa approvals, for instance.
The date change respects these teams and safeguards the open format and purity of competition of the U. S. Cricket Open.
