Kingston, Jamaica – Chairman of the National Commercial Bank (NCB), Michael Lee-Chin will receive the Outstanding Philanthropist award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Greater Toronto Chapter at the National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon on November 15, 2005.
“We are always overwhelmed by the incredible commitment and effort of the nominees,” says Susan Mullin, CFRE, Chair of the Awards Selection Committee. “The real winners are the organizations and individuals that benefit from the incredible dedication demonstrated by every nominee.”
The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is a professional association for individuals responsible for generating philanthropic support for a wide variety of not-for-profit, charitable organizations. Founded in 1960, as The National Society of Fundraising Professionals (NSFRE), the name was changed in the year 2000. AFP advances philanthropy through its more than 26,000 members in 170 chapters throughout North America and China. AFP International Headquarters is located in Alexandria, Virginia.
Mr. Lee-Chin was honored for his commitment to charitable giving including his $30-million gift to the Royal Ontario Museum, $5-million donation to the Michael G. DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University and the $10-million commitment to the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. These donations, among others, were credited by the AFP as being instrumental in creating invaluable cultural and educational legacies.
