“Corruption, the greatest hindrance to Jamaica’s economic growth”
NEW YORK – Dr Trevor Munroe who will be the presenter at the 12th Annual CIN Lecture Series says that endemic corruption in Jamaica hinders economic growth and leads to a serious deterioration of social services and social norms.
Dr Munroe, who the Gleaner called “one of Jamaica’s most brilliant sons”, will make a compelling argument at this year’s CIN Lecture to be held at the Schomburg Center on Thursday November 17th for Jamaicans at home and in the Diaspora to lobby for legislation to bring perpetrators of corruption to justice.
Dr Munroe’s presentation “Curbing Corruption…Jamaica’s Imperative” will outline the many forms of corruption that envelop the Jamaican society and his prescriptions for solving this problem.
Dr Munroe is the Executive Director of the National Integrity Action (NIA) – the Jamaican Chapter of Transparency International, the leading global coalition against corruption. With an outstanding career in academia, civil society advocacy and public service, Dr Munroe is more than qualified to discuss the current topic of corruption to members of the New York Caribbean Community.
The CIN Lecture Series, created to present important intellectuals, is a community forum for hearing visionary Caribbean leaders who reflect on regional affairs and provide hope and direction for the future.
Over the years speakers have been leaders artists, policy makers, business leaders and scholars offering their own unique perspective. Last year, Don Wehby, CEO of Grace Kennedy Group, delivered a powerful presentation to a capacity audience.
Stephen Hill, CEO of the Caribbean International Network (CIN) says “it is important for the large Caribbean audience to come out and hear speakers like Dr Munroe who are outspoken, unafraid and bold in their analysis of the problems that plague Jamaica and at the same time can prescribe the steps to solve the problems and lead to a better Jamaica.”
The CIN lecture will start with a reception from 6pm-7pm held in the foyer of the Schomburg with delicious finger food served by Golden Krust and the presentation by Dr Munroe will begin promptly at 7pm.
