Female leaders to gather for inaugural women & human rights conference in Miami
FHRC & FIU launch inaugural women & human rights conference for LatAm & Caribbean: #OurVoicesResonate
MIAMI – The inaugural “Women and Human Rights in Latin America and the Caribbean” conference “Our Voices Resonate” will take place on Thursday, March 19th, 2015, from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm (EDT), at Florida International University’s (FIU) Modesto A. Maidique Campus’ Graham Center Ballroom located at 11200 Southwest 8th Street, Miami, FL 33199.
The event is co-sponsored by the Foundation for Human Rights in Cuba (FHRC) and Florida International University’s Latin American and Caribbean Center (FIU LACC).
Confirmed panelists include, among others, Berta Soler, Cuban activist and leader of the Ladies in White, Carmen Lomellin, Former US ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), and Gloria Alvarez, Guatemalan political activist and radio host.
There will also be a keynote luncheon featuring Yoani Sánchez, live via Skype with an interactive Q&A, award winning blogger and founder of the Havana based independent digital newspaper, 14yMedio.
According to the FHRC the one day conference “intends to provide an academic platform on which to discuss the various issues facing women in Latin America and the Caribbean. It will bring together some of the Western Hemisphere’s most influential female leaders to discuss the role of women in the struggle for democracy and human rights in Latin America and the Caribbean.”
