Yeelen Gallery and Hamilton, Miller & Birthisel, LLP Black History Month Celebration To Honor Marleine Bastien

MIAMI– On Thursday, February 26, 2015, 6:30pm – 8:30pm, at its annual celebration for Black History Month, Yeelen Gallery and Hamilton, Miller & Birthisel, LLP will honor Marleine Bastien, Founder and Executive Director of Fanm Ayisyen nan Miyami/Haitian Women of Miami and Chair, Florida Immigrant Coalition, for her unwavering advocacy for immigrant and human rights.

The celebration will be hosted during the “Black Freedom” exhibit, a series of works of French-American Miami-based artist Jerome Soimaud and will welcome clients, firm partners, and community leaders at Yeelen Gallery, in Little Haiti, 294 NW 54th Street, Miami, Florida.

​ This annual commemoration of Black History bestows a special award from Canadian sculptor Wayne Headley, including in previous years to Ruth Shack, Dorothy Jenkins-Fields, David Wilson, Babacar M’Bow, Commissioner Betty T. Ferguson, Cheryl Little, John Kozyak, Commissioner Dennis C. Moss, U.S. District Court Judge Marcia Cooke, and Monica Russo,  to esteemed community leaders for their ”contributions in uplifting African-American and diaspora communities of the South Florida”.

This year’s honoree, Marleine Bastien is the founder and Executive Director of Fan Aysien nan Miyami and Chair of Florida Immigrant Coalition.  She has championed the causes of women, children and Haitian families through her dedicated advocacy in the areas of immigration and human rights, HIV/AIDS, breast cancer and domestic violence.

​”Marleine has been a tsunamic force of conscience and justice for immigrants in South Florida and global human rights.  Her voice is undeniable and has influenced decision makers in the halls of government and private sector in recognizing the challenges of the assimilation and integration of all immigrants, including those of Haitian/Caribbean descent,” stated Marlon A.
