West Jet adds new service to Saint Lucia from Canada

ST. LUCIA – Tuesday, November 4 marked the introduction of Westjet’s new service between Toronto, Canada and St. Lucia with new flights operating on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the winter of 2008/2009. Westjet will continue flying to St. Lucia on Sundays.

“Westjet began flying to St. Lucia from Toronto late last year when they introduced weekly Sunday service in December 2007’ said the Acting Director of Tourism Mr. Louis Lewis. “The flights proved to be so successful that the St. Lucia Tourist Board was able to enter into an agreement with Westjet to add new flights on Tuesdays an Thursdays throughout the winter of 2008/2009. Westjet will now fly three times a week between Canada and St. Lucia, on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays”.

Westjet offers very attractive fares between Canada and St. Lucia which stimulated traffic significantly in 2008. Mr. Lewis said “that, plus the expanded service provided by Air Canada and the addition of a number of charter flight., resulted in a significant jump in the number of visitors from Canada this year and all indications are that the additional service will result in further gains this coming winter from the Canadian market.” In the first nine months of 2008 the number of visitors from Canada to St. Lucia increased by 43% compared with the same nine months of 2007.

Mr. Lewis said “When we looked at the numbers from last winter we were very pleased to see how many Canadians look advantage of Westjet’s low fares and stayed in a wide range of our hotels and guests houses here in St. Lucia”

St. Lucians will also benefit from the additional flights with Westjet fares to Canada from St. Lucia being extremely competitive.
