Urban Planner Harris Steinberg Visits Haiti

PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti – Through the State Department’s U.S. Speaker Program, Mr. Harris Steinberg, a specialist in urban planning, architecture and historic preservation, is leading symposiums on the role of civic engagement in urban planning. Mr. Steinberg will be in Haiti from October 1 until October 4, 2012.

During his time in Haiti, Mr. Steinberg will offer presentations to members of the Haitian Ministry of Culture, Engineering, Architecture, and Urban Planning students and professors, as well as members of the private and public sectors.

Harris Steinberg is the founder and Executive Director of PennPraxis, at the Department of Research at the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a professor of graduate design and planning. Mr. Steinberg has a diploma in the history of the arts and a Master’s degree in architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, where he received the Paul Philippe Cret Prize for Architectural Design.

The U.S. Speaker Program is one of the many ways the U.S. government seeks to promote mutual understanding between Haitian and Americans.
