Two Jamaicans Reimagining Labor Day Weekend for Caribbean Americans

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica – For many Caribbean Americans, Labor Day weekend is one of the busiest times of the year. It’s a season filled with carnivals, reunions, concerts and celebrations that bring communities together across South Florida, New York and beyond.

But for two Jamaicans, the holiday also presents an opportunity to reimagine what celebration can look like.

Party with a Purpose

This September, Nadine McNeil and internationally known DJ Jason “DJ Shogun” Murdock will welcome guests to Montego Bay for Party with a Purpose, a five-day experience that combines wellness, music, cultural exploration and community in a way they believe reflects the future of Caribbean travel.

Designed for professionals, entrepreneurs and travelers looking to disconnect from the pressures of everyday life without giving up the joy of Caribbean culture, the event offers an alternative to the traditional Labor Day getaway.

“We’ve spent years proving that celebration and well-being are not opposites—they’re partners,” says McNeil. “Some of the most meaningful moments happen when people feel free enough to laugh, dance, move, connect and simply be themselves.”

Music Cruises

The idea was born from years of working together aboard international music cruises, including the Welcome to Jamrock Cruise, the Maxwell Urban Suite Cruise and the Rise & Rhythm Gospel Cruise. Night after night, they watched guests dance until the early morning before returning only hours later for sunrise yoga, meditation and wellness sessions.

Instead of seeing those experiences as contradictory, participants embraced both.

“There was something incredibly powerful about watching that,” McNeil says. “People weren’t choosing between joy and wellness. They were embracing both.”

For Caribbean Americans balancing demanding careers, family responsibilities and increasingly hectic schedules, the cousins believe that blend resonates now more than ever.

Across the travel industry, wellness has expanded well beyond spa treatments and luxury retreats. Today’s travelers are increasingly seeking experiences that combine movement, meaningful conversation, authentic cultural connection and opportunities to recharge mentally and emotionally.

McNeil believes Jamaica offers a natural setting for that kind of experience.

A longtime United Nations humanitarian leader and certified yoga and meditation instructor, she has spent more than two decades helping individuals and organizations build resilience while also guiding others toward healthier, more intentional living.

Murdock has built an international reputation as one of the Caribbean’s most respected DJs, creating memorable experiences at festivals, concerts and music cruises throughout the Caribbean and North America. For him, music has always been about bringing people together.

Together, they have designed Party with a Purpose to give guests freedom rather than rigid schedules.

The Caribbean Sea

Participants can begin the day with yoga overlooking the Caribbean Sea, spend the afternoon exploring Montego Bay or relaxing on the beach, and finish the evening enjoying live music, conversation and authentic Jamaican culture.

“Some people want every activity,” Murdock says. “Others want a massage, a beach chair and a great conversation. We wanted to create something that respects both.”

Their broader vision extends beyond a single event.

They believe experiences rooted in wellness, culture and genuine human connection represent an important opportunity for Jamaica and the wider Caribbean as travelers increasingly seek vacations that leave them feeling restored rather than exhausted.

For Caribbean Americans, it also offers another way to reconnect with the region—not simply as tourists, but as members of a global Caribbean community.

Instead of returning home needing another vacation, McNeil and Murdock hope guests leave with renewed energy, lasting friendships and a deeper appreciation for Jamaica’s culture, people and spirit.

Party with a Purpose will take place September 3–7, 2026, in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and is open to solo travelers, couples and groups.
