Turks and Caicos Deputy Governor Mahala Wynns Says Farewell

GRAND TURK, Turks and Caicos Islands – “My career path has taken me through many journeys. As I reflect on my time in the various departments of Government:

The Grand Turk Hospital
The Electrical Department & Public Works
Ministry of Natural Resources
Finance Department
Disaster Management & Emergencies
Elections Office
Ministry of Health
The Chief Secretary’s Office
Governor’s Office

I must give thanks to my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ who sustained me and bestowed His grace upon me every step of the way. I have witnessed God’s guidance in my life during the times of discouragement and times of triumph. Without Him, I could not have made it this far. I continue to rely fully upon Him as I commence my retirement.

During my journey I’ve met many wonderful people. I cannot find words to express my sincerest appreciation and gratitude to all the staff members from every department that I have worked with and managed. You have been an inspiration to me through your support and loving and caring attitude towards me.

I take this opportunity to say thanks to the entire Public Service for your support over those 33 years which I spent in the Public Service. There were some of you who I could call on at any time and your assistance was forth-coming. There were some of you who always had an encouraging word for me; I want to thank you for that.

I knew from the onset that not everyone would have been pleased with my management style, or the decisions that I’ve made. However, your interest and welfare were always very close to my heart and I tried my best to lift your morale and to make everyone feel happy to be a part of the Public Service. I will plead with you this last time to revive the Civil Service Association. It is in your interest that you do.

You have many opportunities open to you. Take advantage of them and serve your country well. Remember, this is your country and its future depends on you. I leave these words with you, “The road to success is not straight, there is a curve called failure, a loop called confusion, speed bumps called friends, red light called enemies, caution light called family. You will have flats called job. But if you have a spare call determination, an engine called perseverance, insurance called faith, a driver called Jesus, you will make it to a place called success.”

I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to serve my country. I did the best I could. But there comes a time when one must know when to make one’s exit. This is my time to exit. I wish to congratulate my successor and wish him/her every success and hope that he/she does an even better job than I did.

I wish the Turks and Caicos all the best in the years to come. My wish is that the Service goes from strength to strength, achieving higher and higher standards and I wish for the Governor wisdom, understanding and good health as he leads us during this Interim Government. May God continue to bless us and our Beautiful by Nature Turks and Caicos Islands.”

With best wishes,

Mahala Wynns
