Trinidad’s Government Ministry trains employees in Managing Change

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – The Ministry of Local Government in Trinidad and Tobago recently hosted a two-day training workshop on Change Management for its employees, including Chief Executive Officers and other Chief Officers of the Municipal Corporations.

The sessions were ably facilitated by US-based best-selling author and executive coach, Dr. Rick Kirschner.

Last week at the Cascadia Hotel in St. Ann’s, Dr. Kirschner engaged staff on the themes of Team-building, Communication, Persuasion and Service Excellence using highly interactive and participative training strategies. In bringing a new twist to several familiar areas, Dr. Kirschner described the essentials for change as tried and tested “skills for life”.

In her feature address, Senator the Honourable Hazel Manning, Minister of Local Government highlighted the fact that several stakeholders stood to gain from the training intervention. “As we put the lessons we have learned into practice, not only would we benefit, but so too would members of the wider public through our positive attitudes and our commitment to improved service delivery”

The Minister also explained that the Change Management sessions for staff formed part of the Ministry of Local Government’s broader initiative towards reforming the Local Government System.

“This is just one in a continuing series of interventions as we work towards the transformation and modernization of the organizational structures and processes in Local Government. It must first begin with us”, she ended.
