Trinidad and Tobago’s Ambassador to the United States meets with Americas Society/ Council of the Americas and the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce

MIAMI — Ambassador Dr. Neil Parsan, Trinidad and Tobago’s Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS) attended a breakfast meeting hosted by the Americas Society/ Council of Americas (AS/ COA).

The theme of the meeting was the current political and economic environment of Trinidad and Tobago and opportunities for investment. The meeting was organized and supported by Dr. Anil Ramnanan, Consul General for Trinidad and Tobago.

Ambassador Parsan held discussions on the business strategy developed for Trinidad and Tobago inclusive of opportunities in traditional energy, alternative energy, urban development including infrastructural development and capital market development. Business incentives, existing trade agreements, specialty services sector and opportunities in the maritime industry were also detailed.

Additionally, Ambassador Parsan discussed Trinidad and Tobago’s resource of an ideal climate and suitable lands to produce food as a strategy of lowering Trinidad and Tobago’s food import bill and possible food security challenges for the Region in the future.

Dr. Parsan also detailed Trinidad and Tobago’s growing creative industry in film, music and fashion by highlighting Trinidad native, Anya Ayoung-Chee, who placed Trinidad and Tobago on the map for fashion, after her recent win on “Project Runway,” held in New York.

Americas Society (AS) consists of a forum dedicated to education, debate, and dialogue in the Americas. Its mission is to foster an understanding of the contemporary political, social, and economic issues confronting Latin America, the Caribbean, and Canada, and to increase public awareness and appreciation of the diverse cultural heritage of the Americas and the importance of the inter-American relationship. The Council of the Americas’s membership consists of leading international companies representing a broad spectrum of sectors.

The meeting was attended by Directors of AS/COA as well as Senior Executives from many Multinational Corporations including Aon Risk Services, Cargill Americas, the Caribbean Trade Center, DHL Global Forwarding, General Electric Company, Hamburg Sud, J.P. Morgan, MasterCard Worldwide, Miami Herald Publishing Co., SNC-Lavalin Group and Wells Fargo & Company.

Dr. Parsan accompanied by Consul General Dr. Ramnanan also met with members of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce to discuss the leveraging of existing business opportunities in Trinidad and Tobago related to the country’s key industries of energy and energy services, agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, education, information and communication development (ICT), film and entertainment.

The Greater Miami Chamber is an activist chamber that seeks solutions to the problems that affect businesses and is actively involved in community projects. It is dedicated to building the best environment for business in the Americas.

Ambassador Parsan also used the opportunity to invite attendees at both meetinsg to to attend the Caribbean Investment Forum (CIF) and the Trade and Investment Conference (TIC), which is scheduled to be held in Port of Spain in May 2012.
