Trinidad and Tobago’s Ambassador addresses hemispheric meeting for cooperation against transnational organized crime

Mexico City, Mexico – Trinidad and Tobago’s Ambassador to the United States, Mexico and the Organization of American States H.E. Dr. Neil Parsan recently addressed a consultation to develop a hemispheric approach for cooperation against Transnational Organized Crime (TOC).

Ambassador Parsan stated that Trinidad and Tobago is very interested in the successful operational action of this approach as evidentially supported by the fact that Trinidad and Tobago attended all of the technical consultations held between May and September and by his Government’s commitment in reversing the unbearable scourge of crime, criminality and violence rooting itself in the Western Hemisphere. He further stated that Trinidad and Tobago is very much looking forward to the establishment of the Coordinating Centre of the Americas (CCA) to be established in Mexico.

Dr. Parsan gave his country’s full support for the comprehensive approach platformed on technology, innovation and critical linkages that coordinates strategic, tactical and operational action. He welcomed the technical and financial cooperation and fully embraced the policies that include the variables of social reintegration and harmonization of legal frameworks.

“It is often said what we do in life echoes in eternity and we believe that we are all duty bound as Leaders to leave this world a better place than when we met it. This document is a step towards that obligation” explained Ambassadors Parsan.

This cooperation agreement on TOC follows the commitment adopted by Heads of State and Government held during the Sixth Summit of the Americas held in Columbia in April 2012.

The resulting CCA will be charged with responsibility of the comprehensive and systematic exchange of information within the areas of intelligence, investigation and prosecution using innovative investigation techniques for strategic decision-making among Member States.
