Trinidad and Tobago strengthens relations with the State of Delta Amacuro, Venezuela

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – Officials from the Embassy of Trinidad and Tobago in Caracas, Venezuela met with the Honourable Dr. Lizeta Hernández, Governor of the State of Delta Amacuro, the Honourable Alexis González, Mayor of Tucupita and with other officials of the State of Delta Amacuro to explore initiatives whereby relations between the State of Delta Amacuro and Trinidad and Tobago could be solidified.

During the productive discussion, agriculture, cultural exchanges, tourism and security were identified as areas for enhanced cooperation.

The four day visit from July 26th to 29th included courtesy calls to the town of Tucupita and the village of Pedernales in the State of Delta Amacuro. These visits were viewed as part of a familiarization exercise for Trinidad and Tobago’s Consular team comprising Mr. Ordell Barman, Consul, Mr. Boodram Supersad, Immigration Attaché and Mr. Alcides Montiel Rodriguez, Consular Assistant.

As a result of the proximity of this part of Venezuela to Trinidad many nationals of Trinidad and Tobago visit regularly and some have even taken up residence. The State of Delta Amacuro lies along the Orinoco Delta. Pedernales is the closest point to the south-western coast of Trinidad.

Both Governor Hernández and Mayor González acknowledged the close relations and exchanges that the area had with Trinidad and Tobago and was grateful for this visit by the officials from the Embassy.

The Consular team also took the opportunity to meet with nationals of Trinidad and Tobago living in the State of Delta Amacuro to assist with any consular issues and to address any matters of concern to them.
