BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – The arrival of Delta Airlines inaugural flight from Atlanta, Georgia, into the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport earlier this month, inked another historic moment in the Federation’s aviation history.
Saturday, February 16th marked the first time that three US carriers were on the tarmac at the same time. They were the America Airlines flight 2299 from Miami International Airport, Florida; US Airways flight 1693 from Charlotte, North Carolina, and Delta’s flight 373 from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Atlanta, Georgia.
The historic moment signifies the continued unveiling of the vision of the governing St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Administration of Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, to attract direct international flights from Europe and North America.
American Airlines also operates Flight 2051 on Wednesdays and Sundays from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. SkyService, which flies in on Saturdays from Toronto, Canada had departed just before the Delta flight arrived.
Excel Airways has a scheduled non-stop service from London-Gatwick on Mondays and Miami Air operates weekly charter flights from several US destinations. LIAT, WINAIR and American Eagle also have scheduled flights to and from the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport.
Since taking office in 1995, the rapid development of the tourism infrastructure in St. Kitts and Nevis has resulted in additional hotel rooms, increased seating capacity, more cruise ship calls, new tourism-related businesses and services and hundreds of job opportunities for local residents.
