PEMBROKE PINES – South Regional – Broward College Library is proud to announce the third annual Louise Bennett-Coverley Reading Festival and the SR-BC Library’s Anniversary Celebration.
The Celebration, titled “Miss Lou and wi Kulcha” will feature an exciting slate of panelists who will address several facets of Jamaican culture that influenced Miss Lou.
Fr. Easton Lee, well-known poet, dramatist and composer, will speak on the Elements of Ancestral Teachings, while the Element of Drama will be presented by Dr. Susan Davis (“Dr.Sue”) an actress, poet and educator, who was mentored by Miss Lou. World-acclaimed dancer, choreographer and educator, L’Antoinette Stines (Artistic Director of L’Acadco) will present the Element of Dance with illustrations performed to the exciting “voice” of the drums.
Ms. Lilieth Nelson – writer, performer, educator and “Artistic Scientist”, former Chairman of the “Traditional Folk Forms Committee” of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission and member of the famed University Singers, will address the Element of Music and will also be launching her new book -“Angles of Reflection: Poems by Lil.” Moderator will be Dr. Marcia Magnus.
This year’s Louise Bennett-Coverley Reading Festival promises to be an entertaining,
educational and unforgettable afternoon of Jamaican (“Kulcha”) Culture, with Tallawah Mento Band, Jamaican Folk Revue and some of our best performers and literary minds.
