The Kiwanis Club of Lauderdale Lakes/West Sunrise to host fourth Drug, Alcohol & Tobacco Awareness Seminar

SUNRISE – The Kiwanis Club of Lauderdale Lakes and West Sunrise will host High School Students from across Broward County at their fourth Drug, Alcohol & Tobacco Awareness Seminar (D.A.T.A.) project on Saturday, March 25th at the Dan Pearl Library in Sunrise from 10am to 3pm.

Esteemed Doctors, Counselors, Social Workers, a Judge, Police Officers, and Crime Scene Personnel will present information on the effects of drugs, alcohol and tobacco on the body and that of the unborn.

Babies that are born exposed to recreational drugs are at a staggering high number. More than 450,000 children are born each year exposed to illicit drugs and more than 2.6 million children are born each year exposed to alcohol use. Many of these children suffer developmental difficulties as a result of exposure during pregnancy.

With these staggering statistics of infants being exposed to drug, alcohol and tobacco before birth, The Kiwanis Club of Lauderdale Lakes/West Sunrise will be taking a proactive approach in our community to provide information and prevention programs to parents to come out and learn about drug use during pregnancy.

In addition to teaching the parents about drug prevention, The Kiwanis Club will be offering high school students an opportunity to win a $500 Scholarship and/or a new computer for entering a poster competition depicting the effects of drugs on the body.

The life changing seminar will be held at the Sunrise Dan Pearl Library, located 10500 West Oakland Park Blvd., in Sunrise. For directions to the library you can call 954-749-2521 and for information on the seminar call 786-258-2043.
