The Island of Barbuda featured on ABC’s Weekend Windows

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Millions of viewers of ABC’s Good Morning America began the New Year with a virtual “Island Hopping Tour” to beautiful deserted beaches of Barbuda. This island paradise was featured last Sunday morning on the “Weekend Windows” show at around 8:30 a.m. EST

A film crew from ABC visited the destination in October and conducted two intensive days of filming on the twin island nation, which has been positioned as one of the “premiere tourist destinations” in the Caribbean.

Sunday’s 3-minute television segment featured Barbudan Senator Mackenzie Frank, Calvin Gore, well known Barbudan environmentalist and Jackie Beazer-Joseph, a Barbudan business owner. These residents provided a guided tour of some of the attraction son this pristine island including the Gunthropes Caves, The Frigate Bird Sanctuary and the 17-mile long pink sand beaches that Barbuda is known for.

Director of Tourism in the US, Derede Samuel Whitlock who accompanied the crew and helped to coordinate and scheduled the shoot commented that “This publicity comes at a critical time as the U.S. residents are making travel plans for 2009. Increasing the destination’s visibility among consumers, especially as the winter season starts to kick in is particularly important.”

A similar segment featuring Antigua aired in mid November and the US Tourism office continues to get great reviews and inquiries as a result of this television segment.
