The 3rd Annual Soca Awards Honorees for 2005 Named

The 3rd Annual Soca Awards ceremony will be held in Trinidad and Tobago at Queens Hall St. Ann’s, Sunday October 2nd 2005. This event is endorsed by the Trinidad and Tobago Minister of Culture and the Mayor of Port of Spain.

The Honorees for 2005 are:

SAO Life Time Achievement Award – SAO Lifetime/ Achievement Award

The SOCA Lifetime Achievement Award, established in 2004, is presented by the SOCA AWARDS Organization to performers who, during their lifetimes, have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording.

2005 Recipient: Winsford Devine’s

SAO Hall of Fame Award

The SOCA Hall of Fame Award was established by the SOCA AWARDS Organization in 2005 to honor recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance that are at least 25 years old. Inductees are selected annually by a special member committee of eminent and knowledgeable professionals from all branches of the SOCA recording arts.

2005 Recipient(s): Cecil “Maestro” Hume & Garfield “Ras Shorty I” Blackman

SAO Legend Award – Pre Show Category

This Special Merit Award is presented on occasion by the Soca AWARDS Organization to individuals or groups for ongoing contributions and influence in the recording field. The SOCA Legend Award began in 2004.

2005 Recipient(s): Aldwyn “Lord Kitchener” Roberts & Lancelot Lane

SAO Technical Award

Presented by the SOCA AWARDS Organization, the Technical SOCA Award recognizes individuals and organizations that made significant contributions, to the SOCA Art Form other than to the field of recording. The Technical Award established in 2005.

2005 Recipients: Peter Minshall, Carlos Lazama, Joyce Quamina & Melvin Oscar

SAO Trustees Award – Pre Show Category

This Special Merit Award is presented by the SOCA AWARDS Organization to individual (s) who, during their careers in music, have made significant contributions, other than performance, to the field of recording. The Trustees Award established in 2005.

2005 Recipient: Neil “Iwer” George

SAO International Soca Achievement Award – Pre Show Category

This Special Merit Award is presented by the SOCA AWARDS Organization to individual (s) who have received international recording contracts and have made significant contributions to the Soca Art form on and international level.

2005 Recipient: Rupert “Rupee” Clark

Once again the Red Carpet event promises to be a historical, glamorous and spectacular event, staged by the Soca Awards Organization.

Special awards will also be given to persons deemed to have contributed significantly to the art form.

The awards are based on public voting, which began July 1st, and ends September 9th, 2005.
