Students to be a Mayor and Commissioner for a Day in Lauderdale Lakes
LAUDERDALE LAKES – Students get an interactive civic lesson during a mock commission meeting, at the Lauderdale Lakes City Hall 4300 NW 36th Street, Lauderdale Lakes, on April 5th, 2006 at 6pm – 8pm.
The Kiwanis Club of Lauderdale Lakes/West Sunrise & Commissioner Hazelle Rogers in collaboration with the City of Lauderdale Lakes will be hosting its annual Mayor and Commissioners for a Day on April 5, 2006.
The Mayor and Commissioners for a Day event is a mock commission meeting, which provides the children a first hand look at government.
Partners in this event are: Phyl’s Academy, Lauderdale Lakes After School Programs, Boyd Anderson High School, SOS Children Village, Community Family Center and the Lauderhill/Lauderdale Lakes Central YMCA.
The Mayor and Commissioner for a Day Program was developed when the founder of the Kiwanis Club of Lauderdale Lakes/West Sunrise Tony D’Oyley approached Commissioner Hazelle Rogers to have a student shadow her for a day, Commissioner Rogers went a step further and developed the program that we have today.
Kiwanis International is an organization devoted to the principle of service: to the advancement of individuals, community and national welfare, and to the strengthening of international goodwill. Ours is a vibrant chapter comprised of professionals, who are seeking to reinvest their time and resources in community building. Our club sponsors and participates in numerous charitable events, which benefit children and the elderly.
