Caribbean Designers Unveil Collections at 2nd Annual Runway Show

Port of Spain, Trinidad – The top stylish, innovative and trend setting Caribbean designers will be amidst the flashing lights of the 2nd Annual Fashion Week Trinidad & Tobago (FWTT) from May 29 – June 2, 2009.

From couture to prêt a porter, a variety of fashion genres from established and emerging local and Caribbean designers will be shown during the multi-day event. Designers include Michael Award Winner™ Francis Hendy, who has dressed artists such as Missy Elliot, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, and Trinidad’s own Machel Montano and designing team Millhouse, who has dressed artists such as Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild and Erykah Badu.

Taglined, “Save Our Earth…Live Green,” the event will focus on fashion going green with glamour.

Radical Designs by Dianne Hunt will present an ecologically-minded collection; Meiling, always in tune with the environment, will showcase green designs; Claudia Pegus’ couture collection will be a tribute to First Lady Michelle Obama; and Glen Montes de Oca, a hallmark name of yesteryear, will return with new energy and a meticulous eye for detail.

In total, 40 designers from Trinidad & Tobago and the Caribbean will be featured.

“Fashion Week Trinidad & Tobago is an innovative platform for creative and world-renowned designers to showcase their collections on one of the most picturesque and culturally diverse locations in the Caribbean,” says Jason Baptiste, TDC marketing manager. “The event sets new heights for talent and assists in the establishment of our burgeoning fashion industry.”

FWTT was created to include all aspects of the fashion industry ranging from hair stylists, make-up artists, models and photographers to cosmetic producers and accessory manufactures. The event will also include musical performances, art displays and a showcase of past prize-winning Carnival costumes.
