St. Kitts Minister of Carnival gives support and endorsement to new soca group

ST. KITTS – Minister with responsibility for St.Kitts-Nevis National Carnival the Hon. Richard Skerritt has extended best wishes and given his blessing and the full support of his ministry to the newest band in St. Kitts, d’Vybz band.

The sentiment was expressed during a courtesy call to the minister’s office, at Port Zante yesterday, by Bandleader Steve Dublin and Road Manager Osdel Hanley.

D’Vybz is a re-energised spin-off of the popular band Nu Vybes which officially broke up earlier this year.

The new group which was launched on Tuesday 28th November is expected to make a huge splash during the 2006-2007 national Carnival season.
The minister responsible for Carnival noted he was impressed with what he had heard from the band’s leadership and pledged the full support of his ministry for the group going forward.

Hon. Richard Skerritt

“It is unfortunate that the Nu Vybes band as we know it, had to break apart the way they did,” the minister said, “but already, one new group is emerging that seems to be ready to go places and I wish them all the best.”

Skerritt stressed that original Nu Vybes as we knew it would be sadly missed from this year’s Carnival but expressed optimism that the remaining Nu Vybes members would contribute positively to a healthy future for the St. Kitts/Nevis music industry.
