High Commissioner Wrensford, who was accompanied by Acting Chief Protocol Officer, Ms. Nicola St. Catherine, presented his credentials to President Richards at his official residence during a courtesy call.

Mr. Wrensford discussed with Foreign Affairs minister Rambachan, a desire to foster bi-lateral relations with Trinidad and Tobago and St. Kitts and Nevis in the areas of technology and training in international relations and diplomacy.

It was pointed out during the discussion that a training course in these areas will be beneficial in exposing diplomats and other senior government officials to the international arena and the operations of international organizations.

In the area of technology, Foreign Minister Rambachan pointed out that the benefits of the laptop programmes for high school students in St. Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago, would include maintaining global competiveness, empowering other family members who may not have previously access to computer technology and allowing the less fortunate to have the same opportunities as those who are more fortunate.

During his courtesy call on Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar, High Commisioner Wrensford indicated that Trinidad and Tobago is in a pivotal position geographically as well as economically to significantly influence CARICOM and St. Kitts and Nevis does recognise however that one country cannot carry the entire burden.

Mrs. Persad-Bissessar agreed that CARICOM had to rise together and as such took the opportunity to invite St. Kitts and Nevis to partner with Trinidad and Tobago for the hosting of the Commonwealth and Council of the Americas Trade Forum to be held in Trinidad next year.

Ambassador Wrensford also raised the issues of inter-island transportation and freight cost as inhibitors to inter-island trade to which the Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister agreed and gave a commitment to address.
