BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – St. Kitts and Nevis exported more goods and services to the United States for the first seven months of this year among the member countries of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and Barbados.
Figures indicate the twin-island Federation also exported more to the United States for the January to July period, than all the OECS independent countries combined.
St. Kitts and Nevis exports to the United States were valued US$28.7 million, while St. Lucia exported US$9.4 million; Grenada, US$3.9 million; Antigua and Barbuda, US$6.6 million; Dominica, US$1.4 million and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, US$0.8 million.
Combined, those 5 countries exported goods to the value of US$22.1 million to the United States compared to US$28.7 million for St. Kitts and Nevis.
The British Virgin Islands exported US$2.9 million to the United States; Anguilla, US$3.6 million and Montserrat, US$500,000. Barbados exports to the United States were valued at US$18.7 million.
The US$28.7 million exported to the United States by St. Kitts and Nevis during the first seven months of this year is more than the total exported in 1996 (US$22.7 million); 1995 (US$22.3 million); 1994 (US$21.7 million); 1993 (US$23.9 million) and 1992 (US$22.8 million).
In 2008, St. Kitts and Nevis exports to the United States were valued US$54.39 million, while St. Lucia exported US$26.02 million; Grenada, US$7.27 million; Antigua and Barbuda, US$4.87 million; Dominica, US$2.32 million and US$32,648, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The British Virgin Islands, US$10.75 million; Anguilla, US$4.34 million and Montserrat, US$38,648.
St. Kitts and Nevis companies exporting to the United States and their products are Lutron Liamuiga (dimmer switches and fan speed controls); Harowe Servo (St. Kitts) Ltd (small motors, PC Board Assemblies, Rotor Assemblies and resolvers); Kajola-Kristada (connectors, filters, trap and surface mounts; for the Cable TV and Communications Industry); CSR/DDL (CSR rum/brandy and Brinley flavoured rum products); Jaro Electronics (industrial motors and transformers) and St. Kitts Brush Co. (semi-finish products for polishing dentures and jewelry).
Although Caribelle Batik does not directly ship its products in boxes to the United States, Americans accounted for sixty percent of the company’s sales of US$1.5 million between April 2007 and May 2008.
