Secretary Clinton congratulates the people of The Bahamas on 37 years of independence

WASHINGTON – The US Government acknowledges the Bahamas as they celebrate 37 years of independence.

Statement by Secretary Clinton:

On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas as you celebrate 37 years of independence this July 10th. Our countries enjoy an excellent relationship built on mutual respect and shared values. We have worked together to advance the prosperity and security of both our nations for many years, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration on law enforcement, education, environment, health and other initiatives.

I wish all citizens of The Bahamas a safe and joyous day as you attend Independence Day parades and celebrations in Clifford Park and Rawson Square, enjoy the Junkanoo performances, and reflect on the proud history of your nation. On this occasion, we reaffirm the close friendship between the United States and The Bahamas and offer our warmest wishes for the year ahead.
