SeaFreight announces sponsorship of 2009 Florida Caribbean Business Expo

ORLANDO – Miami-based SeaFreight Agencies, one of the major shipping lines to the Caribbean from the United States has announced its sponsorship of the Fourth Annual Florida Caribbean Business Expo and Conference, to be held June 10-12, 2009, in Orlando, Florida.

SeaFreight has been a sponsor of this event from its inception in 2006 when it was put on as the premiere activity in celebration of the inaugural observance of Caribbean Heritage Month in the United States. This year, the company is a Gold Sponsor of the Expo & Conference.

“As always, we are very pleased to be involved with this event not only because of the observance of Caribbean Heritage month but also because of the opportunity it presents to showcase what Caribbean American businesses are doing as well as discuss issues that impact us and seek to find solutions.

“We are not only doing business in the Caribbean but we are a Caribbean company ourselves and have an affinity to our region” says David Ross, Executive Vice President of the company.

The Expo and Conference will be held at the Pegasus Conference Center in Orlando, Florida and will focus on relations between the United States and the Caribbean region against the backdrop of the new Administration of President Barack Obama and the current global financial crisis.

The theme of this year’s event is ‘The Caribbean American Relationship in this Era of Change’ and will address a host of issues which impact small and medium size enterprises in the Caribbean and the US. One of the plenary sessions of the conference will be devoted to discussion on transportation between the Caribbean region and the US, particularly Florida. Panelists will discuss issues related to shipping both to and from the US as well as air transport including cargo.

Panelists will examine the constraints to shipping goods and fresh produce, delays at ports and the contamination of shipments by illicit drugs and offer advice on how to address these problems. The problems of airline service between Florida and the Caribbean –both passenger and cargo service –will also be addressed.
