Rep. Joe Garcia, Immigrant Families and Advocates Say Yes to Immigration Reform and Citizenship
Miami – One day before President Obama gives an announced speech on Immigration Reform, the Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC) along with advocates, community organizations, civic leaders and immigrant families to launch the “Say Yes!” campaign for a new immigration system that keeps families together and strengthens our economy. They will be joined by Congressman Joe Garcia who represents Florida’s 26th District and was recently appointed to the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Enforcement.
FLIC’s “Say Yes!” campaign is asking Congress to create a new immigration policy that fixes once and for all our outdated patchwork of failed and costly immigration policies, provides a roadmap to citizenship for 11 million immigrants who have none now, and keeps families together.
Florida’s families will lead this campaign to put a real face to the millions of New Americans that need to be at the heart of any conversation about a new immigration policy. DREAMers whose parents have been deported or are still undocumented, families from Homestead who were recently victims of surprise raids by ICE agents at their own homes. Floridians of diverse backgrounds who play an important role in South Florida’s primary industries will also be sharing their stories at the press conference.
Monday’s event is part of a National Day of Action to unify voices in support of a 21st century immigration system that responds to the realities of the new America, and to announce a national mobilization for citizenship on April 10th. Similar events will take place in Washington D.C., NYC, Seattle, Detroit, Nashville and Phoenix.
