Reggae greats return to Anguilla for Moonsplash 2007
NEW YORK, NY – Let the grooves begin! Anguilla will once again play host to a constellation of reggae greats when Moonsplash 2007 hits the beach for another year of good times and great music.
The 17th annual event is set for March 29 – April 1, and will be hosted by Anguilla’s own musical ambassador Bankie Banx at his ultra-funky Dune Preserve beach club and concert venue on the shores of Rendezvous Bay.
Reggae fans would be hard pressed to find a better combination of talented artists and unforgettable setting than this annual extravaganza, all under the glorious light of an Anguillan full moon. Once again, Bankie Banx has assembled an extraordinary lineup of performers to join him and his band, Roots & Herbs, including reggae icon Bunny Wailer, Cat Coore, Benji Myaz, Corey Stoot, Alana Davis, Joanna Williams, Tony Ruption and others.
Moonsplash begins with a kickoff cocktail party at Club Next Level on Thursday, March 29, 2007.
The festival includes two nights of seaside concerts at Dune Preserve. Friday night is International Night featuring Bankie Banx and The Roots & Herbs, and Corey Stoot, Onaje Allan Gumbs and Omari Banks. Saturday night is Reggae Night featuring Bunny Wailer, Benjy Myaz, Junior Jazz, Cat Coore and Tony Ruption. The grand beach party is open to the public and will take place at the Dune Preserve on Sunday, March 31 beginning at 12 noon. The beach party features local foods, crafts and music.
Bankie Banx is a performer, impresario and entrepreneur who brings boundless passion to everything he touches. His stirring lyrics and soulful voice have carried his own brand of classic reggae to delighted audiences in live performances and acclaimed recordings including his most recent release, Chariots of Steel.
Bunny Wailer is a three-time Grammy-winning artist and an original member, along with Bob Marley and Peter Tosh of the original Wailers. The singer-songwriter and percussionist has enjoyed decades of success with his politically and spiritually inspired songs, delivered in a variety of styles ranging from roots reggae to dancehall pop and beyond.
While the performers will be shining on the stage, the setting itself will likely shine as one of the night’s brightest stars. Hailed as the “funkiest beach bar in the Caribbean” by Caribbean Travel and Life, Dune Preserve is an eclectic blend of driftwood, fishing boats and brightly-painted platforms. The club is also known for its delectable West Indian lunch and dinner menus and for Bankie’s legendary cocktail concoction “Dune Shine.”
The Moonsplash ’07 All Performance Pass for both nights is $60.00 and a Moonsplash 07 Season Pass & Cocktail Party Pass is $150.00. For tickets and information regarding Moonsplash 2007 visit www.dunepreserve.com.
