Order for 145 Volvo Buses for Jamaica

STOCKHOLM – Volvo Buses has received an order for 145 bus chassis for Jamaica. The buses will be used as part of the Jamaican government’s initiative to improve the urban transport system in Kingston.

The order is for 145 Volvo B12B chassis with bodies from the Belgian manufacturer VDL Jonckheere. The buses will be delivered during 2010 for city services in the Jamaican capital Kingston.

“This is an important order for Volvo Buses,” says Alexandre Selski, whose responsibilities include Volvo Bus sales in Caribbean. “The Jamaican government has taken an initiative to improve city traffic for residents of Kingston, and we are grateful to be able to participate.”

Volvo has long had a strong position in Jamaica. More than 60 percent of the buses in Kingston are built on Volvo chassis, and in recent years, about 100 new buses with Volvo chassis have been added to the fleet.

“The strong position for Volvo Buses in Jamaica is due in part to the high quality of the vehicles, but also to a high degree a result of the support that the customers receive from Volvo’s dealership in Jamaica, JR Group,” says Alexandre Selski.
