Obama Campaign for Change Announces Leadership Team For Miami-Dade, Collier, Lee and Monroe Counties

TAMPA – Obama for America and the Florida Campaign for Change today (July 22nd) announced new staff additions to its growing team in Florida. The Obama for America team will work with the Florida Campaign for Change, a grassroots, voter contact organization funded by the Democratic National Committee. The following key staffers will lead field, political and communications efforts in Miami-Dade, Collier, Lee and Monroe counties.

“We are assembling the most professional campaign team in the history of the state because Barack Obama is committed to bringing his message of hope and change to the residents of Florida. Our group is a blend of experienced local and national talent that understands Florida’s many complexities,” Florida State Director Steve Schale said.

Oliva Lopez, Deputy Field Director for Miami-Dade, Collier, Lee and Monroe Counties, Campaign for Change

Lopez has served as a regional field director for the Obama campaign in Nevada and contributed to get-out-the-vote efforts in Arizona, Texas and Oregon.

In 2004, Lopez organized grassroots efforts for presidential and local Democratic races in California’s 17th Congressional District. She has worked for the office of Global Development Alliances (GDA) at USAID, the Impact Alliance, an international network dedicated to social change, and at Inter American Dialogue, a leading think tank on U.S.-Latin American relations and policy issues. Lopez holds an M.Sc. in Comparative Politics from London School of Economics and B.A. in Political Science from University of California, Berkeley.

Alejandro Miyar, Deputy Communications Director for Miami-Dade, Southwest & Hispanic Media, Obama for America

Miyar was most recently the statewide Press Secretary and Hispanic outreach coordinator for the Florida Democratic Party. He began his career at the local level, serving as Press Secretary for City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz from 2004 to 2007. Bilingual and of Cuban-American heritage, Miyar grew up in South Florida. He is a graduate of Haverford College.

Adam Wilzcewski, Deputy Political Director for Miami-Dade, Collier, Lee and Monroe Counties, Campaign for Change

Wilzcewski is a veteran of South Florida campaigns. Since 2001, he has worked with four presidential, two congressional, and a handful of local races, serving in the political, field, and finance departments. In 2006-07, he served as the Southern Finance Director for Joe Biden for President in Florida and most recently was a finance and political consultant for campaigns in South Florida. In addition, Wilzcewski has consulted and fundraised for a number of national non-profits. Adam attended the University of Florida and received his law degree from American University’s Washington College of Law.

The Campaign for Change is charged with leading the grassroots effort in Florida to educate voters about U.S. Sen. Barack Obama’s plans to change Washington and create good-paying jobs, lower gas prices and bring a responsible end to the Iraq war. It will also work to harness the enthusiasm of Obama’s grassroots-level supporters and organize them in communities across Florida as they work for Democratic candidates up and down the ticket.

Campaign for Change Opens Gainesville, Fort Lauderdale Offices

On Thursday, July 24, Barack Obama’s Campaign for Change will open its Gainesville and Ft. Lauderdale Offices to the public. Local field operations, volunteers and staff members for Obama for America and Obama’s Campaign for Change will be based in the offices to allow Floridians to reach out to their communities about Barack Obama’s vision for bringing change we can believe in to America.

The Campaign for Change is a project of the Florida State Party, led by top staffers who will work to harness the enthusiasm of Obama’s grassroots-level supporters and organize them in communities across Florida – neighbor to neighbor, friend to friend and colleague to colleague – working for the benefit of Democratic candidates up and down the ticket.

Ft. Lauderdale Office Opening

The Ft. Lauderdale office will grand open on Thursday, July 24 at 5pm at 733 NW Sistrunk Boulevard.

Gainesville Office Opening

The Gainesville office will grand open on Thursday, July 24 at 5pm at 901 NW 8th Avenue.
