OAS Observer Mission Congratulates People Of Guyana On Elections

GUYANA – The Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) and Chief of the OAS Electoral Observation Mission to Guyana, Ambassador Albert R. Ramdin, congratulated the people of Guyana for the general and regional elections held yesterday.

The OAS mission deployed a team of 123 observers in the 10 regions in Guyana to observe the voting. “Reports from OAS observers throughout the day indicated that the elections took place in a calm, professional and orderly manner,” Ambassador Ramdin said.

He extended congratulations on behalf of the OAS to the citizens of Guyana for the peaceful conduct of the polls; to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) for its work in preparing and conducting the elections; and to polling station officials, party agents and domestic observers for their commitment and professionalism. He also praised law enforcement and the disciplined forces for maintaining a peaceful and orderly environment, and the media for keeping the electorate informed about the process.

The OAS Electoral Observation Mission called on GECOM to transmit the results of the elections as soon as verified to further promote confidence in the process, and urged the electorate and contesting parties to exercise patience while awaiting the results of the elections. It further underscored the importance of maintaining a constructive and peaceful environment in the coming days.
