North Miami – Four years ago, I became the only elected official in the State of Florida to endorse Senator Bernie Sanders.

Today, I throw my full support behind Senator Sanders for the Democratic nomination.

Throughout his career, he has provided a vision for an America where we can all thrive. Bernie has fought for and never wavered on the critical issues facing our community: Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, free higher education, fair taxation, cancellation of student debt, housing as a human right, universal free childcare, and criminal justice.

This message hits home here in North Miami and has resonated with millions of young people across this country.

  • Our younger generation not only wants to defeat President Trump but welcomes a leader willing to tackle the deep inequity in our society.
  • His policy on immigration will create a welcoming and safe America for us all. He believes we must welcome refugees, asylum-seekers, and families, like mine, who come to the United States in search of the American Dream.
  • He recognizes the struggle of working-class families and the struggle of finding housing they can afford. Our communities deserve a place to raise their families that is safe, dignified, and within their economic means.

I know Senator Sanders is well equipped to lead our nation. He will be a true progressive champion in the White House who will fight for racial, social, economic, and political justice.

For this reason, I throw my support behind Senator Sanders and his vision for an America where we all prosper.
