Moving Forward! President Obama Wins Re-Election
WASHINGTON, DC – As Election Day drew to a close in the United States, it became apparent that the results, even with razor-thin margins in some states, secured enough Electoral College votes for presidential incumbent and Democratic nominee Barack Obama to serve a second term.
In endless analysis that began even before polls closed, news reporters and political pundits focused on numbers and projections, but their stories unfolded against a backdrop of images showing citizens from both parties participating fully in the great American experiment of democracy.
From storm-ravaged New Jersey to the Pacific Coast, Americans, supported by volunteer election officials and political party organizers, were willing to stand in line for hours to exercise their right to vote and fulfill once again the promise of what President Abraham Lincoln described more than a century ago as “government of the people, by the people, for the people.”
