Michael Anthony launches new book about T&T in the 20th century

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – The National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS) in collaboration with Michael Anthony (Litt.D.) will launch the book, A History of Trinidad and Tobago in the 20th Century – Volume One, at the National Library (Trinidad) on Tuesday January 12, 2010 at 6:30 p.m.

The book tries to embrace every major event in Trinidad and Tobago in the 20th Century. This includes the fight for political reform, which began shortly after the century opened; the Red House Fire, the matter of the soldiers who fought in the First World War, the appearance and growth of the oil industry, and the first elected members after the first general elections in 1925.

Anthony, author, historian was awarded the Hummingbird Medal (Gold) in 1979 for his contributions to Literature, and was conferred an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters by the University of the West Indies (2003). He is the author of some 28 books including: The Games Were Coming (1963), The Year In San Fernando (1965), and Green Days by the River (1967). Anthony’s Historic Landmarks of Port of Spain was launch at the library in 2008 and in 2009, his book All That Glitters was selected for NALIS’ One Book, One Community national reading project.
