Miami Dems, Immigration Advocates to Protest Carlos Curbelo’s Comments on Immigration Reform

MIAMI – On Wednesday, July 16th,  Miami-Dade Democrats will protest alongside immigration activists outside the Miami-Dade County School Board meeting to make sure Curbelo knows that inaction is unacceptable and Florida Hispanics demand reform.

Carlos Curbelo, a Republican running to challenge Congressman Joe Garcia in district 26, says immigration reform is not a core issue for Florida’s Hispanic community and praised Speaker John Boehner’s performance on the issue — as House Republican leadership in the House was letting immigration reform die. He has a history of working for people like presidential candidate Fred Thompson, who used inflammatory, anti-Hispanic rhetoric to describe undocumented immigrants, and Senators who opposed the DREAM Act.

Last week a new poll confirmed just how out of touch Curbelo is, showing that 71% of Florida voters want comprehensive immigration reform, including a path to citizenship, and two-thirds would not vote for a candidate from a party that opposes reform.
